Research activities generate more than $220 million annually in grant and contract support, including support from the Alberta Ingenuity Fund and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. The Dean is a member of a community of 18 Deans who, as the Deans Council, act as the senior academic administration of the University. The Dean is responsible for providing dynamic, strategic and visionary leadership to a distinguished faculty of clinicians, teachers and scholars. S/he must possess both a strong record of research and scholarly achievement (MD, DDS or equivalent), as well as a record of success in administration. The demonstrated ability to fairly balance the demand of a highly complex organization is required. A commitment to outstanding clinical care, education, and substantial experience in external relations is critical. This challenging role demands superb interpersonal skills and sound judgment to provide leadership for the continuing development of the Faculty and the University. Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta or the Alberta Dental Association and College.
